Bookkeeping Accountability — Why a Monthly Review Changes Everything

A 30-minute call once a month to keep your books tidy, accurate and ready — instead of scrambling for days before every VAT return.

What Is a Bookkeeping Accountability Review?

Bookkeeping accountability is a service we offer to business owners who want to stay on top of their numbers without it taking over their week. It's a scheduled call — once a month, by phone or video — where we sit down together and walk through your bookkeeping in real time.

We look at outstanding items, missing invoices, unreconciled transactions, supplier queries and anything else that's stopping your records from being a true picture of the business. By the end of the call, you have a clear list of what to chase, what to fix, and what's already done — and your books are in a far better state than when you started.

What We Cover on Each Call

    1

    Outstanding bookkeeping issues

Unreconciled bank transactions, suspense items, and entries that need clarifying — we work through them together so nothing carries over.

    2

    Missing invoices and receipts

We identify gaps in your records — missing supplier bills, expense receipts, or sales invoices — and agree how to chase them down before they're forgotten.

    3

    Supplier and customer queries

Aged debtors, aged creditors, duplicate entries, and disputed amounts. A monthly review keeps your aged reports clean and accurate.

    4

    VAT and CIS readiness

We flag anything that could affect your next VAT return or CIS submission, so there are no surprises when filing time arrives.

    5

    Quick management insight

A short look at gross profit, cash position and any unusual movements — so you spot trends early instead of months later.

    6

    Action list and accountability

You leave with a clear, written list of what to do before the next call. Nothing drifts. Nothing piles up.

Half an Hour a Month vs Days Every Quarter

The biggest reason we recommend this service is simple: a little, often, beats a lot, rarely. Most business owners only really look at their bookkeeping when a VAT return is due — and then lose two or three full days trying to remember what a payment in March was for, or where that supplier invoice went.

A 30-minute structured call every week, fortnight or month removes that. By the time the VAT quarter closes, the books are already done. The return is a five-minute review instead of a panicked weekend.

The Benefits of Staying On Top

    Better reporting

Up-to-date numbers mean meaningful management reports — not historic data that's already out of date.

    Less wasted time

Bookkeeping done in small, regular chunks takes a fraction of the time of a quarterly catch-up scramble.

    Fewer mistakes

Issues get spotted while they're still fresh — supplier queries, missing invoices, miscoded entries — all resolved early.

    Who Is It For?

Bookkeeping accountability suits any business owner who does their own bookkeeping but wants a professional set of eyes on it regularly. It's especially valuable for VAT-registered limited companies, contractors with CIS obligations, and growing businesses where the founder still wears the bookkeeping hat.

The service is available as an optional extra on our Gold and Platinum business plans for £75 + VAT per month. That's one structured monthly call with your accountant in Brentwood, plus the supporting follow-ups in writing.

    Common Questions

How often is the accountability call?

It's typically monthly, but we can set it up weekly or fortnightly if your business has higher transaction volumes or needs tighter oversight.

Is the call by phone or video?

Whichever you prefer. Most clients choose video so we can share the screen and walk through their bookkeeping software together in real time.

Do you do the bookkeeping for me on the call?

We work through it with you. The aim is to keep you in control of your records while making sure they're accurate and complete — and to coach you so it gets quicker each month.

How much does the bookkeeping accountability review cost?

It's £75 + VAT per month and is available as an optional extra on our Gold and Platinum business plans. The time saved on quarterly catch-ups usually pays for it many times over.
